November Nutshell
by Sue, Jennifer and Frank
The weather was lovely, though a bit brisk. We met in the downstairs meeting room of the hotel. Nancy got there first and made the executive decision to only set up in half the room. This turns out to have been perfect. The space fit the group. Or, maybe, it was the group that fit the space. Kimberly was unable to attend so I (Sue) ran the meeting.
Treasurer's Report
Since Lotus was there, we started with the treasurer's report. We have a whopping $1,685.72 in the bank. Lotus proposes that dues for next year be a token $1 each. I think we should offer our government lessons - for a fee, of course. We will have a discussion of this matter (the amount of dues, not whether or not to teach the government how we do it) at the January meeting.
Old Business
CNCH was the first topic of business. If you haven't noticed, registration is open. Several classes are already full. When I (Sue) registered, three of the four classes Judith MacKenzie-McCuin is teaching are among those that are full. Naturally, I registered for the remaining class. Nancy showed, and let us fondle, the fiber for Return to Sender. It is a luscious blend of 80% merino and 20% bamboo. I didn't catch who did the dyeing. I succumbed.
Aviva is still trying to chase down the cost a workshop. This workshop has participants machine knit a length, dye the knitted fabric then unravel it and knit or weave it into something else. She will keep us posted as she gets information.
New Business
Aviva has acquired a knitting machine. She has no idea if or how well it functions. If she can get it to function, she plans on donating it to Serendipity. This will be some months out. She believes it to be a medium to chunky knitter.
Nancy W. has designed a six hour class to make a vest (designed for each person) out of hand spun.
We're not getting the upstairs room of the firehouse for our December meeting. This is under new business, because we just heard about it for this year. We've had this issue in the past with the park. That's why we pay for the firehouse for December. They wouldn't let Marcia do that this year. Next year, we'll insist. The park had no open Saturdays in December. Nancy has been kind enough to open her house for the December meeting. Sharolene will be sending an evite to everyone to let them know where it is. Please respond to the evite in order to get directions.
Speaking of the December meeting... This is a pot luck lunch (remember to bring serving utensils). A while ago we voted to each bring our own place setting (don't forget something to drink out of). We also have a gift exchange for those who want to participate. The nominal ceiling on the value of an item is $15. However, it is up to you to decide how much something may or may not have depreciated based on how long it has been in your stash. If you'd like to participate, bring a wrapped gift. Many of us think fiber is the very best of gifts.
November is "election" month. I'm not really sure why we call it that. Lotus agreed to remain treasurer for next year. Marcia remains as the museum liaison. I'll still do the newsletter/Nutshell. We expect Ginger (who wasn't there to speak for herself) will be willing to continue to take notes. Aviva is storing the library. That makes her the de facto vice president. I had the least objection to being president, so I'm it for next year. Frank will continue to help with the newsletter. Like I said, I'm not sure what made this an "election".
In case you ever borrow these combs and wonder how to get them back into the box...
This is how the combs go in their box!

Nancy W. : The notes say "Judy's 4 oz. merino or pk". I don't remember what that meant. She had some lovely scarves with her (for sale) that she had woven.
