August Nutshell
by Ginger, Marcia, Sue and Frank
While Sue and Frank were off selling Sue's jewelry at the San Jose Pride Celebration, Aviva led the meeting as the VP. Thank you, Aviva.
Neither Sue nor Frank can make the September meeting for the same reason. Aviva won't be there, either. Please carry on without us.
The group was small. It is assumed that many of our members were at the wool judging, learning more about wool and having a pleasant day with like minded people. If you haven't been to a wool judging, go next year. It really is a fabulous way to learn about breed characteristics and what to look for in a fleece.

The Monterey County Fair wool auction is Labor Day, Monday Sept 6th. If you want to see the wool show exhibits, go one of the days before the show. The exhibits are taken down on auction day.
Show 'n Tell
Margaret: Went to Green Planet Yarn. She thought the people and shop were nice. She knitted a hat in flax from the book Knitting in the Sun. A second hat made with the same pattern has a much deeper crown. She is spinning on new toy from CNCH. What the toy is, wasn't in the notes. My imagination is running wild.

Aviva: Is spinning a silk/camel blend from CNCH. She is spinning very fine to ensure enough yardage. The green is silk, the brown is camel. It will become a 2-Ply.

Carol L.: Is spinning fine wool from the Monterey wool auction and prepared by Morro Fiber Works. One of her "miles" (This exactly the word that was in the notes. Does anyone want to make a guess as to what word it should be?) Sometimes, Ginger's handwriting recognition software is more creative than the rest of us put together.) is having a baby. She is trying to have a blanket for the christening.
She also suggests that having an occasional program would really help keep interest alive in Serendipity. Does anyone have any suggestions? She thinks the website is good. (Thanks, Carol.)
At Christmastide there is a chance to demonstrate hand spinning at a Nativity re-enactment. The church provides costumes. It runs from 7 - 9 pm for five nights. There is little parade with Mary and Joseph and the three kings every half hour. Though it runs for five Nights, volunteers can come for as many or as few nights as you want.
Contact Carol Lewis or http://www.bethlehemsc.com/. The website notes that there is a danger of it not happening this year and has a plea for help. Go to the website to find out what the issue is and how to help.

Ginger: Has knit a shawl from purple handprints handspun alpaca yarn. It isn't blocked, yet. She, also showed a big crocheted afghan from commercial kit (acrylic) in shades of green.
Hi Ginger!
Beautiful handspun alpaca shawl

Hi Ceece!
And that could well be August, in a nutshell.
