July Nutshell

by Ginger and Sue

We had a lovely day for our meeting.  Someone who had been in touch with us via the website found us and visited.  I hope she comes back.

Neither Sue nor Frank will be at the August meeting.  Muddle on without us.

Treasurers Report

We have $1,298.01 in the bank

Old Business

New Business

Margaret suggested a solar dyeing session this summer.  Her suggestion included a teacher.  We agreed to ask Margaret to see what she could do to make this happen.

We're sending a $100 donation off with Sue for the Monterey Wool Auction.

During the meeting Jennifer mentioned an activity she had participated in not too long ago.  A group of people had gotten together to spin and weave as many shawls as they could in a weekend to donate to a local charity.  They had done it over a three day weekend.  Those of us at the meeting thought this was a wonderful thing to do.  We decided to call it a Sheep to Shelter and donate whatever we produce to a local women's shelter.  The next three day weekend is Labor Day and the Monterey wool auction is that Monday so we think a regular weekend will do.  Carol said she could host and has a sun porch where we could do it.  Jennifer said her husband will be happy to cook and feed us for the duration.  Send email to spinner@serendipityspinners.org if you are interested in participating.  Instead of speed, the goal will be quantity.  Just how many shawls can we spin and weave in one weekend?

Webmaster's Report

Our web site will be moving to a different hosting provider in the not too distant future.  Though the money isn't the reason we're doing this, it should cost the guild a little less at the new provider.

Tina: has nothing to show.  She quit knitting due to elbow pain and is less motivated to spin.  Hopefully, all will heal and she'll be able to get back to both.

Jenna: knitted a lacy, ribbed vest

Ginger: is sewing together and doing final joining rounds of a crocheted Iris afghan. She knitted a baby outfit which she had to show us via photo on phone since she had already given it away.
