September Nutshell
by Ginger and Sue
|
It was another quiet day in Kelley Park. The weather was
lovely.
Sue and Frank will not be at the October meeting. Carry on
without us.
Errata: Spindles and Flyers has corrected the information
published last month. It was reported that they would be
50 this year. Actually, they celebrated their 1/2 century
in 2005 with their 50 by '05 project, collecting 50 breed samples
of sheep wool and 50 other fibers. Now they're just
beginning to contemplate what to do when they turn 60 in
2016.
Old Business
Claudia Ward (Monterey Wool Auction) told us how she spent
our wool action donation: $50 for breakfast, $30 for people's
choice award, and the rest for some miscellaneous expenses.
Nancy Durham: the shacks are finished and the two groups
that were instrumental in this achievement are having a
presentation on October 20th. Signage will come by then.
Treasurer's Report
I think I have that number on a piece of paper,
somewhere. That somewhere is very safe. You know the
drill. I have no idea where that safe place is. Let
it suffice to say that we have money in the bank - enough money
that we should have a really good workshop really soon.
Or, perhaps a nice cruise through the inland passage.
Show 'n Tell
Jennifer: is spinning colonial heather in black with
multi color highlights.
Sue: has a new website www.FeatherweightFinery.com for
her jewelry. It can be ordered directly off of the site.
Frank: was knitting (and frogging) socks.
Nancy: made a scarf for her husband out of camel down
from Carol. She will knit a second one for herself.
She knitted a heavy hat in a Peruvian style. She also knit
a vest. Both the hat and vest are from a dark brown fleece
from Don & Willow. It might be Lincoln or
Corriedale. She brought a little display box of her
mother's tatting. The box was done for a craft show at her
nursing home.
Judy: brought her old Ashford. This was her first time
here.
Cookie: brought her back strap loom and wool to give
away. She spent time during the meeting measuring a warp
to weave for the Sheep to Shelter we're working on.
Carol: didn't bring her weaving loom but did bring her
knitting loom. Her knitting project is an olive green sweeter
ribbed cable stitch She showed us the hot pink and lime green
bag she bought at conference. It's called a Nantucket bag.
It has lots of pockets and can open up flat or turn into a tool
apron. It can zip up and be worn as backpack. They are
designed by a carpenter.
Ginger: brought her Harp loom and put a teal and pink
acrylic warp on it.
And that's
September in a Nutshell.
